Koena Mitra is a young Bollywood actress who started out her career as a model. She gained a wide popularity following her win in the Mega Model Contest in 2002. Koena Mitra forayed into the Bollywood industry with an item number in Road, directed by Ram Gopal Verma. Groomed by modeling, Koena's performance in the "Khullam Khulla" song swept the audience turning into a smash hit and she got rid of her alleged camera phobia. Typecasted as an item girl, Koena Mitra was suddenly overflowed with offers to do similar numbers in Bollywood movies, but she declined them all eager to receive a real acting role. Known for her weakness to perfection, Kona Mitra's nose job and lip surgery were flashing in the headlines for quite awhile revealing far from perfect results. Koena had no choice but to remain at home, rather than being caught on cameras looking the way she did.
‘ Koena Mitra was born in Kolkata, India. Koena's father hoped she would undertake law studies, since she loved talking, but her fate decided otherwise. Her name, Koena is derived from a name of a river in India. She trained for 12 years with Mamata Shankar ballet troupe and the technique is apparent in her dance performances on the screen. She also considered becoming a designer since she loves to work on her clothes and make-up. However her more profound childhood aspiration of becoming a glamorous movie star suppressed her other desires.
Koena Mitra took a path of patience and waited almost 2 years before breaking through the mould of a number item girl. When she finally was casted in a minor role in Sanjay Gupta's Musafir she snatched the opportunity at once and let herself be noticed in a new role for the first time. Her next films Insan and Ek Khiladi Ek Haseena brought her all the attention she craved for so long. Koena Mitra sets her eyes on higher goals in acting and invests her utmost efforts to break into the alluring realm of Bollywood industry.
