Dulhann is a dramatic story of Vidya (Played by Divyanka Tripathi) is a young village girl who gets married into a rich family. Coming from a poor background in to a rich society Vidya has to deal with various obstacles that make her life miserable.
Vidya is a simple and beautiful girl with idealistic notions. Her only mistake is that she is illiterate. Vidya is married to Sagar Pratap Singh (Played by Sharad Malhotra) and her dream wedding turns into a nightmare for Vidya when she learns that her husband is a grown up man with a mind of a nine year old. With a mentally retarded husband Vidya has to fight back her lost honor and dignity.

Vidya has three sister-in-laws who make her life even more miserable. The team of sister-in-laws is masterminded by Sindura (played by Kamya Punjabi) – the lead antagonist, the vamp of this story. The character of Sindura’s husband Aniket is played by popular actor Prasoon Joshi.
Tusshar (played by Indraneil Sengupta) is Sagar’s old friend who is also in love with Vidya and helps her to cope with all the problems.
Gayatri (played by Jaya Bhattacharya) is Sagar’s aunt who is also a friend and mentor to Vidya.
