Amitabh is also one of the most versatile actors who have given award winning performances in action, comedy, romance, drama et al. Mr. Bachchan has a baritone voice quality which he also lends to various films as a narrator. He has a worldwide fan following in Indian as well as international audience.
Coming from a small town in Uttar Pradesh Amitabh struggled in various fields before he got his first big break as an action hero as one of the seven protagonists in 1969 film Saat Hindustaani. Amitabh got recognised for his touching supporting performance in 1971 super hit film Anand. Amitabh won the Filmfare award for the best supporting actor. Since then Amitabh Bachchan has delivered numerous super hit films and has won several film awards.
After his action packed performance of a cop in 1973 film Zanjeer Amitabh came to known as the ‘angry young man’. Some of his most successful films have been with directors Yash Chopra and Manmohan Desai. Amitabh suffered a major career set back after 1988 with a series of flop films and failure of his own company ABCL. Amitabh Bachchan jumped back into limelight after his television appearance as a host in Kaun Banega Crorepati (India's adaptation of the British television game-show, Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?)
Some of his notable performances include films like Anand, Kabhie Kabhie, Silsila, Zanjeer, Abhimaan, Deewar, Trishul, Don, Sholay, Satte pe Satta, Sharaabi, Mohabatein, Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham,Veer-Zaara, Kaante, Baghbaan, and the recent films like Cheeni Kum, Sarkar, Jhoom Barabar Jhoom and the list is endless. Amitabh has also lent his voice for a few songs in films like Silsila, Sharaabi, Cheeni Kum and more.
Even today at the age of 66 Mr Bachchan is the reigning star of Bollywood and can give and young actor a run for his money. Amitabh Bachchan lives in Mumbai with his wife Jaya Bachchan (leading film actress) and his son Abhishek Bachchan (leading Bollywood actor of today) and daughter in law Aishwarya Rai (Miss World and leading Bollywood actress).
